How to change the font size on a Samsung Galaxy S4

Although phone screens are slowly getting bigger as standard, they can still sometimes be hard to read. With the Samsung Galaxy S4 you easily change the font size to suit you and your needs. This guide will show you exactly how that is done.

Firstly, as with almost every display guide you will need to access the settings screens. To do this you press "Menu" on a home screen and click settings from the pop up menu (see picture at the top of this guide for clarification, if needed).

From the Settings screen (see right) you will see 4 tabs at the top. By default the phon e will have opened the "Connections" tab, so you will now need to click on the "My device" tab next to it, so you can find the "Display" sub menu.
In the "My device" tab you will see "Display" near the top. From here you need to click on that and then scroll down the "Display" menu until you come to the "Font" section.

The "Font" section includes 3 options, a "Font style" a "Font size and an "Increase legibility" options. For the sake of this guide click on "Font size".

After clicking on "Font size" you will see a new menu open up with a choice of 5 options. By default the phone is set to "Normal" though you can select "Tiny", "Sm all", "Normal", "Large" and "Huge" depending on how you wish to personalise things.

One thing to note is that the "Huge" setting only applies to certain apps (with the rest resorting to the "Large" setting. This also doesnt cover EVERYTHING on the phone but does the menus most apps and various other bits and bobs that you may feature writing.

Of course if at any point you want to change the size back you just need to go through the same steps and select the size you prefer.

GALAXY NOTE 4 BATTERY DRAIN OVERHEATING AND SLOW PERFORMANCE PROBLEMS

GALAXY NOTE 4 BATTERY DRAIN, OVERHEATING, AND SLOW PERFORMANCE PROBLEMS

Roughly two months my Galaxy Note 4 has began to overheat and the battery to discharge too fast. After a time it has began to reset and become slow (especially when opening programs). I had bought a new battery and made a Hard Reset, not restoring the backup Gmail or Samsung. In other words, it was like it came from the factory. After this procedure the problem has persisted.
Currently it is working under stock ROM 5.1.1, not rooted.
Hence, through the bootloa der, I ran a factory wipe and cache wipe and again not restored the backup system avoiding to import some “junk”. I was careful to remove the chip and the card (which was not reinserted), and remove background apps from the home screen, such as clock, and turn off 3G and Wi-Fi.
In the first moments it had worked without problems, but when I enabled 3G to gradually upgrade and install the applications, the issue came up again. The first application to be installed was the WhatsApp. But also I tried this proce dure first installing Swype keyboard and the problem occurred, so I could not associate the problem to a specific application.
The fact is that even after these procedures the problem persists. I’m barely managing to use it in view at all times lock and reboot, or even be frozen for minutes before unlocking, whenever I try to open a new application.
After enabling some attributes in Developer Options in the About Device menu, I could retrieve the following error messages:
“Unified Daemon is not responding”
“IU of syst. is not answering”
Among some other specific applications
I have seen this problem to freeze the opening of applications on desktops with little swap memory. But there seems to be the problem since I am taking up only 184MB of cache.
There are moments when I can open applications and perform processes for some more time before locking. At other times, then hangs start and just taking the battery and restarting to go back to work.
I has turned on in Safe Mode but it seems that problem persists. â€" Andre
Solution: Hi Andre. If the issue is software-related, it should have already been fixed by doing a factory reset. An app-caused problem should also fail to occur when in safe mode but it looks like that’s not the case.
Persistent overheating and fast battery drain issues can also be symptoms of a motherboard problem. We know that you have done almost everything in your power already (like using another battery or doing the software solutions) so there’s high likelihood that the problem is caused by something that you cannot fixed. Based on your problem description, it looks like you haven’t actually addressed the problem because nothing changes after doing all the stuff you did.
We recommend that you consider a general hardware checkup, or even a motherboard replacement if the symptoms continue.

How to factory reset a Samsung Galaxy S2

With modern phones we seem to end up passing them on to friends and family though before we pass them on we need to give them a factory restore to delete all our information from the phone. This guide will show you how to factory reset a Samsung Galaxy S2.

Firstly you need to open up the phones settings menu and scroll down to "Privacy". The privacy screen should look like the screenshot to the left with 3 options but the key one is the bottom option, "Factory data reset". Click on the "Factory data reset" option and you will see a new screen.

The new screen will look something like this one the one on the right of this article. It will explain what a factory reset actually does so make sure to know what a factory reset is. Also make sure you actually do want to factory reset your phone before going any further.

When youve read everything and are sure you still sure you want to reset the phone click on "Reset phone" at the bottom of the screen and then "Erase everything" on the screen that follows.

After this the phone will go into an "auto-pilot" and stop you from doing anything as it resets the phone to its "new" factory state. This will delete everything stored on the "internal" storage (so contacts, apps and system settings) as well as erasing all accounts associated with the phone (so the handset will no longer be getting E-mails, twitter alerts etc).

Whilst this guide is specifically for the Samsung Galaxy S2 which are where the screenshots are from most Androids can be factory reset in a very similar way and hopefully it answers the question of "How do I factory reset my phone?"

Galaxy S6 S6 Edge water damage issues and solutions

Water and electronics do not obviously mix well. If you are looking for advice on what to do with a water-soaked #GalaxyS6 or #GalaxyS6Edge, keep reading and you may find this post helpful.
GalaxyS6Active
This post covers the following topics:
  1. Can files be recovered from a water-damaged Galaxy S6 by moving the NAND chip to a working motherboard?
  2. Water-damaged Galaxy S6 Edge won’t boot normally
  3. Galaxy S6 only loads download mode after it got dropped into a bucket of water
  4. Galaxy S6 back button not working properly after phone got water damaged
If you have an #Android problem, share them with us by using the link below and we will do our best to give you effective solutions.

PROBLEM #1: CAN FILES BE RECOVERED FROM A WATER-DAMAGED GALAXY S6 BY MOVING THE NAND CHIP TO A WORKING MOTHERBOARD?

Hey now. A good friend of mine’s wife got her Samsung Galaxy S6 wet and after days in a dry rite bag it will not turn on. My friend has tried charging the battery and still nothing.
Normally we would say, chock it up to lesson learned but in this case it has the last pictures and video of her with her mother before she past recently so it is worth it to him to invest in recovering the data.
We have tried contacting a couple web sites that claim to handle difficult recovery but no one will touch it if it won’t power up. Samsung would just return a refurb if sent in so we are seeking advice.
http://www.werecoverdata.com/cellphone-recovery/
http://www.krollontrack.com/data-recovery/data-recovery-process/data-recovery-methods/
I believe it is unlikely that the NAND flash chip itself suffered damage, but it is located close to the SIM card slot so it is higher risk than other components, though I would lean toward an issue in the power circuitry over the memory chip.
I thought we should be able to find a company that could remove the NAND chip and either place it on another main board or use a Data I/O device to access the memory. We used to do this type of thing at work with leaded memory components but have outsourced many of the manufacturing capabilities over the years so I can even try. However I can not find a company that seems to offer this service if necessary.
I am hoping you can suggest a company or maybe something I am overlooking.
I have found that the KLUBG4G1BD-E0B1 chip is likely the one we need to research though I haven’t opened the phone. I have not been able to find a datasheet or supporting documentation even though Samsung appears to be marketing the chip outside their company for use in mobile application.
I did find this documenthttp://csrc.nist.gov/groups/STM/cmvp/documents/140-1/140sp/140sp2380.pdf
If I am interpreting this correctly, it is likely that I can’t simply move the NAND to another S6 main board (something that we could do if I found a cheap damaged phone that would at least power on). As It looks to me like the NAND is likely encrypted and protected by a password that is used by the CPU during boot to unlock and decrypt. Am I correct? or am I misinterpreting what I read?
Do you think it could be possible the password if it exists could be extracted from the firmware? The paper from Samsung was written by Jisoo Kim, and engineer for Samsung in Korea from what I can find (he may even have a LinkedIn profile. But I have not been able to find an email address for him to discuss the potential issues with him.
So, what do you think?
Is it possible to move the NAND to a new phone (for all I know the passcode is common to all s6’s and not locked down to a specific CPU/mainboard)?
Is there anything else we can try to get the powered up?
Do you know any companies that offer this service?
Would you be interested in following up with Mr. Kim at Samsung? You may have better luck than me.
At this point I am just recommending that they keep the phone tucked away till I can find an inexpensive broken s6 on eBay so I can experiment with moving components, maybe the mainboard is still good. I don’t know.
Thanks for taking the time to read this and any effort you put into finding me a solution. â€" TimeZoner
Solution: Hi TimeZoner. We understand the importance of getting back stored data from the phone of your friend’s wife but dealing with this problem is actually a tricky business, if not an impossible one, given the fact that the phone no longer powers on.
We are not aware of any online site that offers remote services to recover files from a non-functioning smartphone so going this route is definitely out of the question.
Fishing out the NAND chip from the motherboard (assuming that it’s not damaged) and moving it to working S6 system may be a viable option. Samsung NAND chips are usually cryptographically (password) protected at a certain level to prevent unauthorized access to user data so placing the one from the damaged phone to another motherboard may not work unless you have the key handy during the authentication attempt.
The process of accessing NAND chip data is proprietary so it’s obviously not readily available online. We don’t know of any company that offers the kind of services you are looking for so we think you are really out of luck in this regard. iFixit offers hardware troubleshooting and diagno sis for almost all Samsung devices. You may want to contact them for more specific hardware-related information. This page may be of help.

PROBLEM #2: WATER-DAMAGED GALAXY S6 EDGE WON’T BOOT NORMALLY

Droid Guy, I have a new Samsung S6 Edge that got dropped in water for 1 second. It wil l kind of turn on when it is plugged in only. Kind of means that the grey battery symbol with a lightning bolt comes on and then changes to the green battery  and fills up and says 100%. When I press the power button it will cycle through 4 different screens over and over first, the white letter on black background Samsung Galaxy Edge (powered by Android) Screen, Colored Samsung the Yellow “Sprint” Screen to the Yellow “Sprint Spark” screen.
If I press the Power and Volume Down buttons the phone will go to the grey battery with the lightning bolt then to the green battery filing up to 100%. The screen will then time out the go to just a green changing light in the to p left corner of the phone.
If I hold down the Volume Down, Power and Home button on the front bottom of the screen it will bring up a blue screen that says warning â€" a custom OS can cause critical problems in phone and installing application…bottom of the screen has a triangle with an “!” in it.
That is about all the phone will do. It will not do anything when the phone is not plugged in.
Not sure if what options I have with this phone. Thank you. â€"Matthew
Solution: Hi Matthew. It looks like your phone is no longer booting up normally. The screen that you see after pressing Volume Down, Power and Home buttons simultaneously is called Download Mode screen. When in this environment, you can flash or install a new firmware or operating system to your phone usually using ODIN.
Try booting the phone in recovery mode first by pressing Volume Up, Power and Home buttons at the same time so you can either try to wipe the cache partition or reset to factory defaults. If you can reach recovery mode, make sure to do the wipe cache partition first to see if that will make any difference. If that won’t work proceed to factory reset.
If your phone still fails to load normally after a factory reset, boot it again to download mode and flash a stock firmware.
Note: Make sure to select the correct firmware for your phone to avoid problems.

PROBLEM #3: GALAXY S6 ONLY LOADS DOWNLOAD MODE AFTER IT GOT DROPPED INTO A BUCKET OF WATER

I’m max from Dominican Republic. Yesterday I was recording with my Galaxy S6, when I fell into a bucket of water. Take it out and let it dry , I was told to go into a bag of rice. My Galaxy S6 did not recognize the ID touch, then the screen flickered and capacitive buttons after 1 day was good but when I charge it, it told me that the battery had high temperature and kept charging. When turned off the mobile came a thermometer symbol and the Galaxy S6 vibrates.
I need your help. I want to know if you need to change the USB port or my cell phone broke. When I plug in Download mode works fine for changing the software, the problem is that no load. â€" JC
Solution: Hi JC. There’s no telling what will happe n to an electronic device if liquid or water seeps into inside components. It’s also highly recommended that you don’t turn the phone on after it gets water damage unless you are absolutely sure that there is no remaining liquid or moisture inside. This is so to prevent shorting out other components. Unfortunately, checking for moisture or water inside is usually not practical for an average S6 user.
Opening the phone by yourself will obviously void the warranty and will not guarantee a 100% fix. This is the reason why we always recommend that you must seek the expertise of qualified technicians, or better still, Samsung’s for a fix.

PROBLEM #4: GALAXY S6 BACK BUTTON NOT WORKING PROPERLY AFTER PHONE GOT WATER DAMAGED

I dropped my phone in the toilet a few months ago. I put my phone in rice and when I took it out everything works fine except for the back button keeps going off because of a shortage I think. I use this app called All Gestures because I can turn off the back button and use swipes any where on my screen to go back. I looked at the indicator and there’s a red x so I know there’s water damage. I’m on my 15 going to be 16 in a few months and I want to show my mom that I can be great with my stuff so she doesn’t have to replace it. Please help me. I don’t want to replace it at all because I might downgrade. â€"Kiara
Solution: Hi Kiara. As much as we would like to help you, there’s honestly little that can be done to fix this issue yourself. Just like our suggestion for others above in this post, the best course of action for you is have the phone serviced to completely remove any remaining water inside. Keep in mind that any moisture on the motherboard will eventually corrode some components or short them out. This can result to more problems in the near future if you don’t have it fixed right away.
Calling Samsung will not help either as they deem water damage as customer misuse, which means that your phone is now out of standard warranty. You may want to save some money to have the phone serviced.

How to Fix Error 403 in Google Play Store

A lot of users are reporting app could not be downloaded due to an error 403 in Google Play Store while trying to update and install apps/games. This error has been around since very long and most of the time the 403 error code automatically resolves within few hours or a day. What is Play Store Error 403? It actually means your download or update request was forbidden by Google Server because of something called "traffic shaping”.There is no single fix for this error that will work for everyone. Some folks have solved it by doing a simple cache and data clearing and others have done the good old remove/add Google account method. Here are the best possible solution and fix for Google Play Error 403 on Android smartphone and tablets:

How to fix Error 403 in Google Play Store during app download, upd ate & installation

Chrome could not be Downloaded due to an error (403)

Example Error Formats:
Update for "Gmail" could not be downloaded due to an error. (403)
"Clash of Clans" could not be downloaded due to an error. (403)

Note: Error 403 also affects Bluestacks Android App Player for Windows as Bluestacks cant access Google Play Store servers due to this error.

First Method: Clearing Cache and Data

This is the most widely used method:
  1. Go to Settings >> Apps >> All
  2. Scroll down and select “Google Play Store” >> Clear Cache and Clear Data
  3. Again go to Settings >> Apps >> All >> Select “Google Service Framework” >> Clear Cache and Clear Data
  4. Go back and open Google Play Store app and try to install/update your app or game.

If above steps didn’t work try the one below.

Second Method: Removing and re-adding Google account

Note: This method has worked for most users. The same steps are used to fix error -101 in Google Play Store.
  1. Go to Settings >> Account s >> Select “Google”
  2. Select Gmail account linked to your Play Store
  3. Press your menu button and click “Remove account”
  4. Now reboot android (optional)
  5. Go to Settings >> Accounts >> Add Account >> Select “Google” >> Add back your Gmail account
  6. Go back and open Google Play Store app and try to install/update your app or game.
If above steps didn’t work try the one below.

Installing Alternate Android Market Apps (not really a fix)

This 403 error is likely to get resolved in your next firmware or Play Store update. If you’ve tried all the methods above and have also updated your Android operating system to the latest available version, you can try alternative android marketplaces like Amazon App Store , Samsung Galaxy Apps and Mobogenie Market. Youll have to download the APK installation fi le from the link and then manually install it from you Android device. To allow APK installation youll have to enable app installation from "Unknown Sources" by going to Settings >> Security >> Enable "Unknown Sources".

The 403 error is a Google Server error so you won’t get this error from alternate app stores. You can use these marketplaces side by side with your Google Play Store and then switch back to Play Store after it gets fixed. Some of these stores also great deals on paid apps and games, and you will find most of the popular daily apps on this store. I also recommend installing a anti-malware software like Avast on your smartphone and tablet to be safe from malicious apps.

Still having trouble with error 403 in Google Play Store ? These fixes aren’t really permanent and they’re definitely not going to work for everyone so if you’ve found another method or solution please help us out in the comments below.

Spec wise the phone looks very average as its still running eclair and its only got a 3MP camera though it comes into its own with the ease of use and the smoothness of how it works. If youre an android enthusiast this isnt going to be pushing the android software to its maximum though if youre a phone user who wants to dip your toes into android this is the perfect handset.

Samsung Galaxy Ace
This can be bought for around £150 new and is a very, very solid phone from a technical standpoint. With an 800mhz processor behind it and with an update to Gingerbread looking likely (if its not already out when you read this) the phone really combines the specs of a much more expensive phone with a price that most can afford. The phone holds a very solid 5MP camera (which is now the sort of industry standard) a 3.5" screen and has many of the features of more expensive handsets.

Whilst it doesnt match up anywhere near bigger better brothers Galaxy S and Galaxy S2 it is still a very solid phone and one that combines the Android experienc e saving money and a solid handset.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini and Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini Pro
At around £130 new the Xperia X10 Mini Pro (and for around £50 less the Xperia X10 Mini) are two budget androids with the Pro featuring a qwerty keyboard and come from Sonys growing Xperia range which look like being one of the growing forces on the market. Whilst the "Pro" version is the better phone its hard to see if that £50 is actually worth the difference unless you really love the qwerty keyboards.

Whilst neither phone is going to blow your mind away neither is going to be a massive disappointment for people wanting an "advanced phone", if you are wanting a true smartphone experience however then you may feel a little bit disappointed. Though neither is a bad phone as such theyre just "older" phones.

HTC Wildfire S
Easily the newest handset on this list it is as low as £149.99 from 3 (though you will need to buy a top up with it) and yet for the price you do get a huge amount for your money. The phone was the follow up to the original HTC Wildfire and yet has manage d to be more than a simple follow up, its been a huge step forward. The phones runs Gingerbread, it has a HVGA screen and although the processor (600mhz) and internal memory (512MB) are a bit disappointing compared to the high spec phones it really is a lot of phone for your money (and has an expandable memory slot).

The Wildfire S is a solid all rounder that provides a good android experience with a good solid phone and at a decent price. Though really if you have £150 to spend the fight between this and the Galaxy mentioned above really will be a tough battle, if youve only around £100 though get the San Francisco, you will not be disappointed.

M8 com.google.process.gapps Has Stopped
ProblemGood Morning. I have had a HTC One M8 mini since the new year (this is my second one from vodafone!) and in the last 24 hours I have been getting error messages about Google Play services and com.google.process.gapps saying that unfortunately they have stopped. At the same time my facebook app has stopped also and get the same error message. I have searched on the internet and have tried the following fixes:
  • clearing the caches from all google apps
  • uninstalled updates where I have been able to (although most don’t give me that option anymore)
  • factory reset
  • rebooted â€" many times!
I get the error messages so frequently (I am continuously tapping!) that I can’t even send an error report to HTC or google! I am working on the Google Play service 7.0.99. Please can you help. If you need any more info please ask. Many thanks.

  • Tap Settings.
  • Scroll to ‘PHONE,’ then tap Apps.
  • Scroll left to the ALL tab.
  • Tap the Download application.

  • Restart your phone.

M8 Not Playing Music Through Car Stereo
ProblemHi, I have an HTC one M8 and I’m still running Kitkat 4.4.4. When I plug in the Aux cable to my phone, the music doesn’t play through my car stereo. But instead plays through the phone speakers. when I plug in my headphones the sound works perfectly through my headphones. Any help would be appreciated. Respectfully.
Solution: The problem may be with the auxiliary cable or the car stereo settings. Try connecting another phone to the aux cable and see if the sound plays to your car stereo. If the issue is the same then trace the problem starting with the aux cable going to the car stereo.
If however the other phone plays through the car stereo then the issue may be with your phone.
First, check the audio port of the phone and make sure that it is free from dirt or debris. If you spot any then clean it using a toothpick.
Next, wipe the cache partition of your phone to clear out any corrupt data.
  • Turn off the device.
  • Press and hold the Volume Down key.
  • Press and release the Power key to turn the phone on.
  • Continue holding the Volume Down.
  • Release the Volume Down key when the three Android images appear on the bottom of the screen.
  • Press the Volume Down key once to move the cursor from FASTBOOT to RECOVERY.
  • Press the Power key to begin the wipe.
  • The device displays the bootup screen followed by a phone with a red triangle.
  • Press the Up Volume key and Power key at the same time.
  • Press the Down Volume key three times to select Wipe cache partition.
  • Press the Power key to initiate the wipe.
  • Wait until the phone displays Cache wipe complete.
  • Press the Power key to select Reboot system now.
M8 Duplicate Copies Of Photos
ProblemHi, I so hope you can help me. Thanks for your time. I purchased the subject phone from my local Sprint store in June 2014 and had it replaced after a damaging accident in February 2015. So stupidly, neither I nor the store technician thought to remove my 16gb miniSD card before doing the file transfer. After 2 hours, it still wasn’t done, and I realized it probably was chugging away copying all of my music (~8gb), which I keep on the SD card. The technician checked the copy status and said everything else had copied fine and that it was just doing the music, so we ended the transfer. At home, I was able to delete all the music that had copied so far from the phone’s internal storage. The photos are another story. Soon I discovered 2 and sometimes 3 copies of many/most photos. UGH. It’s been 6 weeks, with several attempts connecting the phone to my computer to remove all photos from the internal storage to keep them on just the SD card. I’ve gone through every folder on the phone using Windows Explorer. Yet, even with the SD card removed, the photos and videos still can be accessed on the phone, even after shutting it down and rebooting it. I can’t figure out where they’re being stored. I emptied the DCIM folder and Download folder. Are they perhaps these strange files in folders .dataCacheManager? There’s like a million unreadable files in there. If these are the photos, would it be possible to delete these files without causing any harm to the phone’s functioning?
Solution: You may be viewing a cached copy of the photo file. Try clearing the cache of the gallery app and see and this resolves the issue.
  • From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  • Tap Settings.
  • Scroll to ‘PHONE,’ then tap A pps.
  • Scroll left to the ALL tab.
  • Tap the Gallery application.
  • Tap Clear Cache.
If you are still seeing duplicate photos then try wiping the cache partition of the phone.
M8 Won’t Update
ProblemSo I’ve had my HTC One since about October, 2014 but I’m still running Android 4.4.2. I’ve tried using the “AT&T software update” option in the settings but it just keeps telling me there’s nothing available and to try again in 48 hours.  I wasn’t too bothered by it but now with the lollipop update being pushed out, I’m worried I might miss out.  Is there anyway to fix this?
Solution: If your phone is running on its stock software but you are still not getting any updates then try using the HTC Sync Manager to update your phone. First you need to install the latest version of HTC Sync Manager on your computer. Once installed in your computer launch the program then follow the onscreen instructions. To check for any new software updates go to the Window’s system tray, right-click on the HTC Sync Manager icon, and choose Check for firmware updates. If an update is found, connect your phone to your computer, and click Update now.

M8 Does Not Install Software Update
Problem: Hello, I am writing to you hoping you can solve my problem. I own a HTC One M8. I live in Ireland and the phone was bought here. I have the phone set to automatically download new software updates and not long after I bought it an update became available. (Software update 2.22.401.5 (613.74MB) Android 4.4.3) After I download the software, I tap on the option “Install Now”. This is where the problem arises. Instead of just installing the software, the phone turns off and reopens in safe mode. At this point the phone appears on a screen titled “Team Win Recovery Project v2.7.1.0” which lists out 8 options displayed in a tile format. Options include 1) Install, 2) Wipe, 3) Backup, 4) Restore, 5) Mount, 6) Settings, 7) Advanced and 8) Reboot. When I go to install the update, first I create a backup of what is on my device. Next I go to the install option and find the downloaded software upd ate which is 613.74MB in size and tap to install it. It fails to install every time. I have tried to wipe the phone before installation of the software as well as many other things but it still fails. I assumed that when I tap on install updates on the home screen the device would just install them as opposed to entering safe mode. Any advice would be hugely appreciated as it has me tearing my hair out. If you require any more information please don’t hesistate to ask.
Solution: If your phone has the Team Win Recovery Project installed then your phone is using a custom recovery software. Right now your phone is using version 2.7.1.0 of this software. Version 2.8.6.0 h as already been released which fixes a number of bugs. Try getting this updated version and see if your phone proceeds with the update.
